Plumbing FAQ’s

I have a burst pipe. Water is gushing. What should I do?

When a pipe bursts, the most important thing to do is to turn off the main water supply whether this is inside the laundry, below the kitchen sink or outside your home. This will stop the water flowing until an Alcom plumber arrives rectifying the issue.

Why is my water bills high constantly high?

Leaks can be a burden on water bills. Should you have high water bill not relative to your consumption, a test should be carried out to ensure there are no leaks.

Firstly, ensuring no water is being used, write down the numbers indicated on the water meter. Note down the time and wait approximately 30 minutes. Return to the water meter. If the numbers have not changed, you do not have a leak should they have changed then a leak is imminent.
